Dean of Faculty of Management
Dr. Boyacıgiller earned her doctorate at the Haas School at the University of California, Berkeley, her MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA, and her BA degree from Boğaziçi University. Before joining Sabanci, Dr. Boyacıgiller spent 18 years as Professor of International Management at San Jose State University in California. Her current research funded by the National Science Foundation, is a study of organization culture and human resource management practices in multinational corporations and their influence on corporate performance (with S. Beechler, S. Taylor and O. Levy). She also recently edited a book titled Crossing Cultures: Insights from Master Teachers (with R. Goodman and M. Phillips). Her work has appeared in numerous journals and research compendiums, including the Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Research in Organizational Behavior, and International Business: An Emerging Vision, among others. An active member of several professional organizations, Boyacıgiller has held leadership positions in both the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business and sits on six editorial boards. She has received numerous awards for her scholarship and teaching including, the San Jose State University College of Business Outstanding Undergraduate Professor Award (2001), the Ascendant Scholar Award from the Western Academy of Management (1994), and the Dean's Faculty Excellence Award (1989). She has taught at the Anderson School at UCLA, the Haas School at University of California, Berkeley, the Stockholm School of Economics' Institute of International Business, Bilkent University, and Boğaziçi University.

MARK ROE is David Berg Professor of Law at the Harvard Law School. He received his PhD degree from Harvard Law School in 1975 and his B.A. from Columbia University in 1972. Professor Roe has written extensively on corporate law and new methods of corporate reorganization and bankruptcy. At Harvard, he has taught Corporate Finance and Reorganization as well as advanced issues in corporate law. Roe is the author of “Strong Managers, Weak Owners”, “Political Determinants of Corporate Governance”, “Bankruptcy and Corporate Reorganization: Legal and Financial Materials” and the co-editor of “Convergence and Persistence in Corporate Governance Systems”. Roe has published extensively in outstanding scholarly journals in law and economics fields
RANDALL MORCK is University Professor at the University of Alberta, where he also holds the Jarislowsky Distinguished Chair in Finance - the largest endowed chair in Canada. He is also a Research Associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a Senior Research Associate with the Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School, and a Research Fellow with the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan. Prof. Morck graduated with a summa cum laude honors Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics from Yale University and then a PhD in Economics from Harvard, to which he returned three times as a visiting professor, most recently as William Lyon Mackenzie King Visiting Chair in 2005. With numerous research articles in outstanding journals, Prof. Morck’s research includes studies on corporate governance, labor input into corporate governance, and pension fund management and is cited more than 1,700 times by other scholars. He has served as a consultant to the US and Canadian governments, the World Bank and the IMF; and is a frequent speaker at academic, government, and business conferences in North America and abroad.
STIJN CLAESSENS is Assistant Director in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund and Professor of International Finance Policy at University of Amsterdam. Mr. Claessens, a Dutch national, holds a Ph.D. in business economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1986) and M.A. from Erasmus University, Rotterdam (1984). He taught at New York University and worked for fourteen years at the World Bank in various positions. His policy and research interests are firm finance; corporate governance; internationalization of financial services; and risk management. Over his career, Mr. Claessens has provided policy advice to emerging markets in Latin America and Asia and to transition economies. His research has been published in scholarly journals and he has edited several books. He is also a fellow of the London-based CEPR, ECGI (Brussels) and AICG (Seoul), and a member of the Advisory Board of the Millstein Center for Corporate Governance and Performance at Yale University.
BERNARD S. BLACK is Hayden W. Head Regents Chair for Faculty Excellence at University of Texas Law School, Professor of Finance at University of Texas, McCombs School of Business, Co-Director of the Center for Law, Business and Economics at the University of Texas, and managing director of the Social Science Research Network and its sub-network, the Legal Scholarship Network, and founding chairman of the annual Conference on Empirical Legal Studies. Professor Black received his B.A. from Princeton University, M.A. in physics from University of California at Berkeley and J.D. from Stanford Law School. He has also been Professor of Law at Stanford Law School (1998-2004) and Columbia Law School (1988-1998). He has published several books and numerous articles in law, finance and economics journals, principally in the areas of law and finance, corporate and securities law, international corporate governance, and health care and medical malpractice.
RIENTS ABMA is currently the Executive Director of Eumedion, the Dutch Corporate Governance Platform for Institutional Investors. At the moment, Eumedion counts 61 Dutch and non Dutch members, representing in total more than 1 billion Euros of invested capital. Previously, Abma has served as Policy Advisor in the corporate governance area at the Ministry of Finance, Secretary of the “Tabaksblat” Committee (the Dutch Corporate Governance Committee), Secretary of the Monitoring Committee of Corporate Governance Code (Frijns Committee), and Secretary of Economic Affairs at the employers’ federation VNO-NCW. In July 2007, Rients Abma was elected as a Board member of the International Corporate Governance Network. He is also a member of the Dutch Accounting Standards Board. Abma holds a Masters Degree in General Economics, with concentrations in Monetary Economics, from the University of Groningen.

PAULINA BEATO is a member of the Board of Directors of REPSOL -YPF since 2005 and Chairperson of Audit Committee, REPSOL-YPF since 2006. She worked as Principal Economist in the Infrastructure and Financial Markets Division of the Inter-American Development Bank from 1995-2005. She previously held several senior positions, CEO and Director, at various industrial and financial companies in Spain. She has published articles in specialized journals, Journal of Economic Theory, Quarterly Journal of Economic, Journal of Project Finance among others, about regulation, competition and pricing policies in infrastructure and financial services. Paulina holds a Ph.D., in Economics, University of Minnesota.
PAUL COOMBES is a former director of McKinsey & Company, the international management consultants, where he was one of the leaders of the Firm's Financial Institutions Practice. He was also worldwide coordinator of the Firm's work on corporate governance issues. Over 25 years he served clients across Europe, Asia and North America. He has experience of working not only with listed companies, but also mutuals and non-profits, family firms, private partnerships and public sector entities on issues of governance, strategy and organization. He is currently Chairman of the newly established Centre for Corporate Governance at the London Business School.
JESUS ESTANISLAO is currently Chairman of the Institute of Corporate Directors and resident/CEO of the Institute for Solidarity in Asia, focusing on corporate and public governance, respectively. Dr. Estanislao served as founding Dean of the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo (1998), founding President (1992-1997) of the University of Asia and the Pacific, and Executive Director of the Center for Research and Communication (1969-1981). Previously held positions include Secretary of Economic Planning, Director General of the National and Economic Development Authority, and Secretary of Finance for the Republic of the Philippines, Philippine representative and Adviser in APEC's Eminent Persons Group, and Philippine representative in the ASEAN Eminent Persons Group. Dr. Estanislao holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, MA in Economics from Fordham University, and AB in Economics and Ph.B. (summa cum laude) from the University of San Carlos.
PHILIP T. N. KOH holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of London and Masters of Arts from the Australian Catholic University and currently serves as senior partner of Messrs Mah - Kamariyah & Philip Koh, a firm with practice in corporate governance advisory, corporate securities law, and mergers and acquisitions, among others. Previously held positions include Executive Director and Group Legal Director of Phileo Allied BHD, Executive Committee Member of the Federation of Public Listed Companies (FPLC), Chairperson of FPLC Technical and Regulatory Committee, Adviser to the Malaysian Institute for Corporate Governance (MICG), member of the Law Reform Committee on Corporate Governance in Malaysia, and member of the Corporate Law Reform Committee. He is currently an Adjunct Faculty Staff of the Handong International Law School at Pohang, Korea. He has served as Adjunct Professor, Deakins University, Australia, and as Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Malaya.
MELSA ARARAT is a member of the Faculty of Management at Sabanci University and the director of Corporate Governance Forum of Turkey (CGFT). Dr. Ararat teaches Strategic Management, Corporate Governance and Business and Ethics courses in MBA and EMBA programs. Prior to returning to the academia in 2003, she held various international management and board positions in Asia Pacific, Japan and Europe for over 15 years in the high tech industry. Her focus was Strategic Partnerships and Joint Ventures. Dr. Ararat's current work focuses on the overlap between corporate governance and strategy as well as the corporate governance reforms in emerging economies. She was a member of the committee which developed CG Guidelines for Turkey. Dr. Ararat holds a PhD in Management- Corporate Strategy and Organization- from Istanbul University and an MSc and BSc in Chemical Engineering from METU.

YILMAZ ARGUDEN is the Chairman of ARGE. His career spans private sector, public sector, multinational institutions, NGOs, and academia. Dr. Arguden has a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from the Bosphorus University, where he received both the Top Graduating Engineer Award and the President’s Prize for Student Leadership. He received his PhD in policy analysis from the RAND Graduate Institute with General Distinction. Dr. Arguden started his career at the R&D Center of the Koç Group (1978-80). He worked at the RAND Corporation as a Policy Analyst focusing on energy policy and human resources policies (1980-85). Later he joined the World Bank where, as a Senior Officer, he participated in more than 100 loan negotiations with more than 20 countries (1985-88). Upon his Government’s invitation, he returned to Turkey where he led the Privatization Program. He also served as the Chief Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister (1991).
KEE-HONG BAE is a professor of finance at the Queen's School of Business of the Queen's University. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Korea University and Ph.D. degree from the Ohio State University. Before joining Queen's University, he has taught at the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Korea University. Professor Bae has published numerous research articles in top finance journals such as Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Financial Markets. Professor Bae serves in the editorial board of Pacific Basin Finance Journal and as a senior research fellow in the Global Corporate Governance Academic Network at Yale University.
HANDE BENGISU is a graduate of Duke University (B.A. in Economics) and American University College of Law (J.D.). She is practicing attorney and a member of the New York, New Jersey and Istanbul Bars. Her main areas of practice are capital markets law, investment law and commercial arbitration. She is also a Ph. D. Candidate at Galatasaray University, Department of Private Law.
MORTEN BENNEDSEN has been in post as Professor in Applied Economic Theory at Department of Economics, Copenhagen Business School since November 2002. He was Associate Professor at Department of Economics, Copenhagen Business School from November 1999 to October 2002 and Assistant Research Professor in the same Department of Economics from August 1997 to November 1999. Professor Bennedsen holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University (1994-1998). He has also studied at the London School of Economics and at the University of Copenhagen.
BERNARDO BORTOLOTTI is Associate Professor in economics at the University of Turin. He obtained a PhD in economics from the Université Catholique de Louvain. He is head of research programme at Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, Milan. His research interests are in privatization, regulation, and corporate governance. He has served as consultant for the World Bank and secretary of the Italian Global Advisory Committee on Privatization. He is the founder and executive director of the Privatization Barometer.
VIDHI CHHAOCHHARIA is assistant professor of finance at the University of Miami, Business School. He received his PhD from Cornell University and an M.S. degree in Quantitative Economics at the Indian Statistical Institute. Professor Chhaochharia’s research has been published in the Journal of Finance.
FATIH DALKILIC holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration from Dokuz Eylul University. His master thesis was titled “Earnings Management and its Role on Financial Reporting”. Since 2002, he works as a research assistant and continues Ph.D. studies on “Professional Judgment in IFRS”.
SANKAR DE is Clinical Professor and Executive Director of the Centre for Analytical Finance, Indian School of Business. He was recently conferred the title of Fellow of the Wharton Financial Institutions Center for 2006-07. Prior to joining the ISB, Professor De was Executive Director, Center for Professional Development in Finance (CPDF), Berkeley. He also teaches regularly in graduate programs at Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, USA, his alma mater. His teaching and research interests include all major fields of corporate finance, including corporate valuation, corporate diversification and planning, and corporate mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs. His pioneering research work on the merger and consolidation of financial institutions received a US national research award in 1988. He received his MBA degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
KATHRYN DEWENTER is Associate Professor of Finance, Joshua Green Family Endowed Professor at the Michael G. Foster School of Business Washington University. Her current research interests include international corporate finance (dividend policy, banking structure, initial public offers), pricing and efficiency of privatizations. Her work has been published in scholarly journals such as The American Economic Review, The Journal of Business, The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, and Journal of Financial Economics.
JULAN DU is Assistant Professor at Chinese University of Hong Kong. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University, M.A. in Economics and Finance and B.A. in Economics and International Finance from Fudan University. Her primary fields of interests are financial economics, economics of organization, international economics, and development and transition. Her work has been published in distinguished scholarly journals.
ISIL EREL, assistant professor of finance at the OSU Fisher College of Business, holds a PhD in finance from the MIT Sloan School of Management, where she also worked as a postdoctoral associate with Professor Stewart Myers. She received her Bachelor of Arts in economics and business administration from Koc University, Turkey. Her research spans a variety of areas within corporate finance, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, banking, capital requirements, and the effect of market structure on the operations of firms. Dr. Erel will teach a course on financial institutions in both MBA and undergraduate programs in spring 2007.

IGOR FILATOTCHEV's research is focused on corporate governance and international business strategy. Igor has led a research project that explores the dynamic inter-relationships between corporate governance, growth strategies and performance of initial public offering (IPO) firms. He was also involved in a number of research/consultancy projects for various organizations including the EBRD, OECD, Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, and the UK Department of Trade and Industry. He is Program Director of MSc in International Management, and teaches courses on international business strategy.
JIE GAN is associate professor at the Department of Finance, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a Fellow of the Milken Institute. She holds a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has also studied at the Beijing University and Nanjing University. Prof. Gan’s research has been published in outstanding journals such as Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Financial Studies.
HALIT GONENC earned his Ph.D in Finance at College of Business and Administration, Old Dominion University, Virginia, USA. He is assistant professor of finance at University of Groningen, Netherlands. Before his position in University of Groningen, he had served as Associate Professor in Finance at Hacettepe University. His research interest is corporate finance; empirical studies on capital structure and takeovers; corporate governance; ownership structures and firm performance, business groups; new equity issuers market, analysis of stock returns; international financial management; emerging markets finance. He has published on finance, international finance and business-related issues in internationally established academic journals.
KLAUS GUGLER is associate professor at the Department of Economics, University of Vienna. His research interests include Mergers, Corporate Governance, and Competition Policy. He published his work in outstanding economics journals.
JAN HANOUSEK received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Charles University. Dr. Hanousek has held research positions at various institutions including Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Statistics, Carleton University; Visiting Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Statistics, Free University; Visiting Researcher at the Economics Department, Princeton University; Visiting Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Economics, University of Pennsylvania; Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Academy of the Sciences of the Czech Republic. Teaching positions include: Assistant Professor at CERGE, Charles University, Prague; Associate Professor at CERGE; Citigroup Professor of Financial Markets at CERGE-EI; Director of CERGE, Charles University and the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
NIELS HERMES is associate professor of international finance at the University of Groningen. He received his PhD in 1995 from the same university. His main research interests focus on the relationship between financial development and economic growth, foreign banking, international capital flows, microfinance, and corporate governance and corporate governance codes. He has published on these issues in internationally established academic journals. He is associate editor of Journal for Eastern European Management Studies.
SUNG WOOK JOH currently teaches at the Seoul National University (SNU) Business School and has worked for the Prime Minister, Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Planning and Budget, and the Fair Trade Commission. She graduated from SNU and received her Ph. D. in economics from Harvard University. Dr. Joh had informed and evaluated government policies on chaebols while working for KDI, a government think tank. Her recent article on the Korean economic crisis and corporate governance appeared in Journal of Financial Economics. Dr. Joh is currently examining how political connections affect firms' borrowing and firms' subsequent investment in political assets.
AYSE KARAEVLI is at the Faculty of Management, Sabanci University. Her research interests are in the fields of corporate governance, industry evolution & strategic adaptation, organizational design & change, executive succession, careers and labor markets.

VIKRAMADITYA S. KHANNA is currently Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School and previously served on the Boston University School of Law faculty. He earned his S.J.D. at Harvard Law School. Professor Khanna has been visiting faculty at Harvard Law School, a senior research fellow at Columbia Law School, and a visiting scholar at Stanford Law School. He is a recipient of the John M. Olin Faculty Fellowship for 2002-2003, and his areas of research and teaching interest include corporate law, securities fraud & regulation, corporate crime, corporate and managerial liability, law in India, corporate governance in emerging markets, and law and economics.
JONATHAN KOPPELL is Associate Professor of Politics & Management at the Yale School of Management and the director of the Millstein Center for Corporate Governance and Performance (MCCGP). Professor Koppell has numerous projects that intersect with the work of the MCCGP. His ongoing work on the governance of quasi-government includes papers on governance challenges for SOE's in China and publicly-supported venture capital funds in the United States. His principal current project is about the organization and administration of transnational governance organizations like the WTO, the International Telecom Union and the International Accounting Standards Board. He is now working with NYS Commission on Public Authorities (led by Ira Millstein) on better defining the duties of public sector directors.
OSKAR KOWALEWSKI is Assistant Professor at the World Economy Research Institute at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) in Poland. He is also a Fellow of the Wharton Financial Institutions Center at the University of Pennsylvania. He was previously Assistant Professor of Finance and Director of the Polish German Center of Economic Research at the Leona Kozminski Academy of Entrepreneurship and Management in Warsaw. He is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Geothermal Energy Plant Podhalanska and Board Member of the Polish Energy Group. His primary research interest is on corporate finance, financial intermediation and international comparisons of financial systems.
ANTHONY KYEREBOAH-COLEMAN has a PhD degree from the University of Stellenbosch Business School, Cape Town, South Africa. He is currently at the University of Ghana Business School, Legon.
RICARDO P.C. LEAL is currently Dean and Full Professor at the COPPEAD Graduate Business School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro where he teaches Investments, International Finance and doctoral level seminars. He has previously taught at Georgetown University and the University of Nevada. He has consulted for many institutions on Latin America financial markets, including the World Bank, the OECD, the United Nations, Charles Schwab, and the IADB. His research and consulting interests are in the area of emerging securities markets, the financing of corporations, and corporate governance. His work has been published in prestigious academic journals and he has also authored many books, totaling more than 100 publications. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Global Corporate Governance Forum and a faculty associate of the International Institute on Government, Management, and Policy of Georgetown University.
DONG WOOK LEE is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Korea University Business School. Previously, he was at the finance faculty of the University of Kentucky, which he joined after graduating from The Ohio State University with a Ph.D. in summer 2003. Dr. Lee’s research interest is in corporate governance, stock market inefficiency, and real estate investments. Dr. Lee has published papers in American Economic Review and Real Estate Economics, and received research grants from CIBER, Russell Sage Foundation, and Real Estate Research Institute. He holds a BBA and MBA from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea
KAI LI is W.M. Young Professor of Finance (Associate Professor) at the University of British Columbia, Sauder School of Business. Prof. Li has been a visiting Associate Professor of Finance at the MIT, Sloan School of Management. Her papers have been published in the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance and Journal of Econometrics.
LUBIMOR LIZAL is the Director of CERGE, Charles University, and the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (EI). Previously held positions include Deputy Director for Research at CERGE and EI, Citigroup Endowment Professor at CERGE-EI, and consultant for the World Bank. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Czech Technical University in Prague, M.S. in Systems Programming and Electronic Computers, and his Ph.D. from CERGE, Charles University. Dr. Lizal is a member of the European Economic Association, CEPR, and Ceská ekonometrická spolecnost (Czech Econometrics Society), and a William Davidson Institute Research Fellow.
CHRISTIAN LUNDBLAD joined the University of North Carolina's Kenan Flagler Business School as an assistant professor of finance after holding a faculty position at Indiana University.Lundblad researches empirical asset pricing issues and international finance, with a specialization in emerging market development. He served as a financial economist at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C., where he advised the board of governors on international financial market developments. Lundblad received a PhD in financial economics and a master’s degree in economics from Duke University. He earned his BA in economics and English literature with highest honors from Washington University in St. Louis.
WILLIAM L. MEGGINSON is Professor and Rainbolt Chair in Finance at the University of Oklahoma’s Michael F. Price College of Business. He is a voting member of the Italian Ministry of Economics and Finance’s Global Advisory Committee on Privatization. Professor Megginson's research interest has focused in recent years on the privatization of state owned enterprises, especially those privatizations executed through public share offerings. He has published refereed articles in several top academic journals. His co authored study documenting significant performance improvements in recently privatized companies received one of two Smith Breeden Distinguished Paper Awards for outstanding research. He has served as a privatization consultant for the NYSE, the OECD, the IMF, the World Federation of Exchanges, and the World Bank. Dr. Megginson has a B.S. degree in chemistry from Mississippi College, an MBA from Louisiana State University, and a Ph.D. in finance from Florida State University.
MATTHEW MOREY is professor of finance at the Lubin School of Business at Pace University. Professor Morey received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel in 1989 and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Irvine in 1993. In 1993-1994 he was a Fulbright scholar to South Asia (Bangladesh). From 1995-99 Professor Morey was an assistant professor of economics at Fordham University. From 1999-2000, he was a visiting professor at Smith College. Professor Morey’s main research interest is mutual fund economics. This research has been published in some the leading finance/banking journals and his work has been cited numerous times in the financial press. Professor Morey has received a number of awards and honors for his work in mutual funds. In 2003, he received the Investment Management Consultants Association’s Journalism Award and in 2004 he testified as an expert witness before Congress on mutual fund regulation.
DENNIS C. MUELLER is professor of economics at the University of Vienna. His main research interests are in public choice, industrial economics and constitutional political economy. He is the author of many articles and several books; among them being Public Choice III (Cambridge University Press, 2003), The Corporation (Routledge, 2003) and Constitutional Democracy (Oxford University Press, 1996). WALTER NOVAES is currently an Associate Professor at the department of economics at PUC Rio. His main research interests include theoretical and empirical work in capital structure, corporate governance and organization theory. Professor Novaes has published articles in some of the most important Finance and Economics Journals, since graduating as a Ph.D. in Economics from M.I.T. in 1993.
HAKAN ORBAY is professor of finance and economics, teaching in the MBA, EMBA, PhD and Executive Education programs at Sabanci University. His main research interests are firm theory; corporate finance and corporate governance. He is currently the Director of MBA programs at Sabanci University and Academic Coordinator of Corporate Governance Forum of Turkey.

KYUNG SUH PARK is currently a professor of finance at the Business School of Korea University, and the associate director of the Asian Institute of Corporate Governance. He had his MBA degree from Stanford University, and Ph.D in Finance from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, U.S.A. His main research interests include corporate finance, corporate governance, financial markets and industries, market microstructure, and he has published related papers in the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Journal of Financial Markets among others. He has also actively participated in the policy making process in financial and corporate governance issues as an advisory member for the government of Korea.
RAGHAVENDRA RAU is associate professor at the Krannert Graduate School of Management, Purdue University. He holds a PhD from INSEAD and has also studied at the Indian Institute of Management and at the University of Delhi. Prof. Rau’s research interests include corporate finance, asset pricing, information economics, behavioral finance and game theory. His research has been published in outstanding journals such as Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Finance and Journal of Business.
OLIVER M. RUI is an Associate Professor at the school of accountancy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a senior research fellow of Center for Institutions and Governance and a senior research fellow of Center for Economics and Finance. He is the Director of MACC Program. He holds a B.S. degree in international economics (1990) from the Institute of International Relations in Beijing, a Msc. degree in Economics (1993) from Oklahoma State University and an MBA in Statistics (1995) and a Ph.D. in Finance (1997), both from the University of Houston in the USA. Prior to joining the CUHK, he taught at the University of Houston and was an associate director of China Accounting and Finance Research Center and an associate professor at the School of Accounting and Finance of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Rui has published more than 30 papers in international reputable journals and has published two textbooks in Chinese. Dr. Rui is a Charted Financial Analyst.
KADER SAHIN is an assistant Professor of Department of Economics and Administrative Sciences. She has received her Ph.D. in Business Administration at the Karadeniz Technical University in 2006. Professor Şahin teaches Management and Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management. Her research interests are in organization theory, cross cultural transferability of management theories and business system in Turkey.
PRABIRJIT SARKAR is a Visiting Fellow at the CBR, Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, UK and a Professor of Economics, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. Prof. Sarkar has a Ph. D in Economics from the University of Calcutta (topic: Post war terms of trade controversy: a re examination). His research interest includes issues of trade and development. Professor Sarkar is currently involved in ESRC research project of CBR, Cambridge on corporate governance.
BURKHARD SCHRAGE is Assistant Professor of Management at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University. He was a Senior Fellow at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Prof. Schrage has a Ph.D. degree in International Finance from Tufts University. His papers have appeared in scholarly journals such Journal of International Business Studies, Academy of Management and Review of Development Economics.
ALI TUKEL is an instructor at Bogazici University. Between 1986 and 1998, after working in the finance that included executive positions in investment banking, he obtained his Ph.D. in Finance at Bogaziçi University in 2006. He has taught in the Management Information Systems Department of Bogaziçi University since 2004. His teaching and research interest include corporate governance, financial services and infrastructure of financial markets.
GUNSELI TUMER -ALKAN joined CFS in September 2005. She is a PhD student in Finance at CentER, Tilburg University, and “Early Stage Researcher Fellow” in ECGTN at CFS. She holds a BA degree in Economics from Istanbul University and an M.Phil. degree in Finance from CentER at Tilburg University. Previously she worked for several years as an equity analyst in Turkey. Her research interests are in the area of financial intermediation and corporate governance. She is currently working on relationship lending, market discipline and banks’ ownership structure.
KENICHI UEDA is an Economist in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund. His research focus is a link between financial system and macroeconomics. He obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago before joining the International Monetary Fund in 2000. Prior to the Ph.D. study, he worked for the Ministry of Finance, Japan, after obtaining his B.A. in economics from the University of Tokyo.
BEHLUL USDIKEN is at the Faculty of Management, Sabanci University. Prof. Usdiken's research interests are in organization theory, history of management thinking and business education in Turkey, and top managements in Turkish business organizations. His research has appeared in scholarly journals such as Organization Studies, Journal of Management Inquiry, Business History, Operations Research and New Perspectives on Turkey.
SHANG JIN WEI is Assistant Director and Chief of Trade and Investment Division at the International Monetary Fund, and Director of the Working Group on the Chinese Economy and Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (US), Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (Europe), and Special-appointment Professor of Finance at Tsinghua University (China). He was the IMF’s Chief of Mission to Myanmar (Burma) in 2004. He previously held the positions of Associate Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University, the New Century Chair in Trade and International Economics at the Brookings Institution, and Advisor at the World Bank. Dr. Wei’s research covers corruption, international finance, trade, and China. He holds a PhD in economics and M.S. in finance from the University of California, Berkeley.
YISHAY YAFEH is Associate Professor at the School of Business Administration of the Hebrew University and Research Fellow of the CEPR and ECGI. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University (1993) and has taught in the past in Oxford and Montreal. He has also served as economic advisor to the Bank of Israel and the Israel Securities Authority. His research interests are business groups in Japan and in emerging markets; financial globalization today and in the pre World War I globalization period; and comparative studies of financial systems. Mr. Yafeh's research has appeared in numerous journals. His recent publications include the book Emerging Markets and Financial Globalization: Sovereign Bond Spreads in 1870 1913 and Today (Oxford University Press, 2006, co authored with Paolo Mauro and Nathan Sussman).
MEHMET DENIZ YAVUZ earned a Ph.D. from Yale University in 2006, a M.B.A. from Yale University in 2002, a M.A. in management from Bogazici University Institute of Social Sciences in 1997, and a B.S. in industrial engineering in Bogazici University 1995. During his doctoral program he served as a consultant to Conasev (Peruvian stock exchange) and calculated the fair value of a beer company to resolve a major acquisition dispute. This project became a case study for the Yale M.B.A. students.
BURCIN YURTOGLU is at the Department of Economics, University of Vienna. His research interests include Corporate Governance, Emerging Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions and Competition Policy. Part of his research has appeared in the Journal of Law and Economics, The Economic Journal and the European Economic Review.

VITALY ZHEKA is a researcher at the Ukrainian Productivity and Efficiency Group (UPEG). His work on corporate governance and corporate efficiency is published in the Journal of Productivity Analysis and Managerial and Decision Economics.
MINE AKSU has been teaching as an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey for four and a half years. She also serves in the research group of the Corporate Governance Forum of Turkey in the same institution and as the Country Director for Turkey to the International Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association. She previously taught at Temple University in Philadelphia and at Koc University in Istanbul. Her research areas include financial distress and debt restructurings, employee stock options, market anomalies, financial disclosure and other corporate governance issues.
