About the Global Corporate Governance Forum

The Global Corporate Governance Forum (Forum) was established in 1999 as a multi-donor trust fund co-founded by the World Bank Group and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to promote global, regional, and local initiatives that aim to improve the institutional framework and practices of corporate governance.  The Forum aims to find synergies with Donor/Founder strategies and programs.  In doing so and to the extent possible, the Forum activities will be undertaken only where they do not conflict with Donor/Founder strategies or programs.  Activities under the Forum are open to public and private sector organizations, governmental institutions and individuals with a direct interest in promoting better corporate governance around the world.  The Forum is inclusive and seeks to encourage broad participation and co-operation between developed, developing and transition economies.  Contributing donors include: the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), L’Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the Ministry of Finance of Luxembourg, the Royal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands.

The Forum promotes sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction within the framework of agreed international development targets and contributes to the efforts of the international community to promote the private sector as an engine of growth, reduce the vulnerability of developing and transition economies to financial crises, and provide incentives for corporations to invest and perform efficiently, in a socially responsible manner. It fosters partnerships with the programs of other relevant institutions and plays a coordinating role among Donors, Founders, and other relevant institutions.  The Forum seeks to address corporate governance weaknesses of emerging markets and low income countries in the context of broader national or regional economic reform programs, which it seeks to complement and enhance.
