This article aims to resolve the confusion about the concept of sustainability and contribute to the ongoing discussions on international trends for company managers and market players in Turkey. The first part of this two-part policy paper examines the issue in terms of international and local law, and the second part in terms of markets. This view is also important to consider the international trends and a brief summary about the situation in Turkey. At the end of both sections, we present our concrete suggestions on what to do in the field of law, regulation and implementation so that sustainability is a factor that determines the quality of economic activities. This paper includes the first section which examines the subject in terms of law.
